Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is what I say to a therapist confidential?
Yes, maintaining honesty and privacy throughout the therapeutic process is essential for its effectiveness. Therapists at Reclaim Psychotherapy adhere to the ethical standards set forth by their appropriate governing bodies. However, there are situations where a therapist may be obligated by law to break confidentiality, such as when there is an imminent risk of self-harm or harm to others. These scenarios should be addressed during the initial intake session when beginning therapy. While therapists may seek guidance from colleagues and experts in the field through case consultations, these conversations remain strictly confidential and client identities are kept anonymous. Feel free to express any concerns you may have about confidentiality with your therapist.
  • Does Reclaim Psychotherapy offer phone or virtual sessions?
Yes, virtual counseling services and online therapy sessions are currently available at Reclaim Psychotherapy. We offer virtual mental health services delivered via our secure video platform to clients in both the Greater Toronto Area and across Ontario.
  • How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy will vary based on the practitioner. Reclaim Psychotherapy currently offers services at a rate of $135 per 50-minute session and does not charge HST.
  • Is therapy at Reclaim Psychotherapy covered by OHIP?
Counseling and Psychotherapy Services at Reclaim Psychotherapy are not eligible for coverage under OHIP. Nevertheless, expenses might be reimbursable through a workplace or privately owned insurance plan —kindly consult your insurance provider for additional details.
  • Is therapy at Reclaim Psychotherapy covered by my insurance?
If you have extended coverage for Registered Social Workers, your sessions will be covered!
  • Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. It's not necessary to obtain a doctor's referral before reaching out to Reclaim Psychotherapy. However, if your insurance plan includes coverage for treatment with a Registered Social Worker, your insurer might mandate a doctor's note before attending a therapy session. We recommend you confirm this requirement directly with your insurer.
  • Does therapy work?
Many people who have tried therapy have found that engaging in counseling or psychotherapy, whether in-person or through online sessions, yields substantial and lasting relief from persistent emotional challenges, helps with problem-solving, and improves problematic behaviour patterns over time. It's important to remember that therapy is not a "quick fix" for any problem, but the results do tend to be long-lasting. Typically, after a few sessions with your therapist, you'll begin to notice some of the benefits of therapy. If you are ever worried about your progress in therapy, you are encouraged to openly discuss your experiences and expectations with your therapist so that together, you can make adjustments in order to make your therapy experience more successful and fulfilling.
  • What are the goals of therapy?
Therapy is a deeply personalized journey that will be influenced by the unique goals you want to accomplish. For many, these objectives may involve breaking harmful habits, reducing emotional distress, enhancing self-awareness and decision-making, fostering healthier relationships, and discovering innovative strategies to confront past and present challenges. Additionally, it often entails a progression towards an increased ability to experience joy in everyday life.
  • How long does therapy take?
There is no right or wrong length for therapy. The time you spend in therapy will depend on the specific issues you aim to address and the desired results you seek. While some people engage in therapy briefly, others view it as a means for ongoing personal growth and heightened self-understanding over the long-term. Ultimately, the decision regarding the duration of your therapy journey is entirely up to you.
  • How often should I go to therapy?
The frequency of sessions fluctuates from client to client. Many choose to schedule one session per week, though this can be adjusted according to your specific needs.
